Mowat Sportsmanship Award

DNA Swag men's Hoop Classic
Dear Coaches:
Do you know someone on your team or bench that has overcome adversity and demonstrated outstanding courage and resiliency? A player or team manager who was extremely committed or went above and beyond? Someone who acted kindly and changed a situation, or direction of a team or individual’s path? Someone that routinely demonstrates sportsmanship?
The inspiration for the Mowat Sportsmanship Award came from an act of kindness demonstrated by the BMHS Senior Boys basketball team and Coach Nick Earle. Ben Mowat, who was team manager and never let cerebral palsy interfere with his ability to support his team, was called on to hit the court in the 2018 Hoop Classic. The excitement in the gym and memorable evening that ensued touched the hearts and inspired all who witnessed it there or on CTV, CBC and Global News. https://globalnews.ca/video/4741868/best-night-of-my-life-n-b-teen-with-cerebral-palsy-shines-in-high-school-basketball-game
The Mowat family is honoring this act of kindness by donating $5,000 over 10 years and it is with great pride that our Hoop Classic welcomes this special tradition into our tournament. Evaluation committee will select two deserving individuals (one male and one female). The recipients will receive the “Mowat Sportsmanship Award” and a $250.00 honorarium to go towards sports fees, equipment, or post-secondary education or training.
Please encourage your team to submit 1 – 3 names of teammates. A brief summary (max 1 pg each) describing how they embodied the characteristics mentioned above can be emailed to: jeffmowat@icloud.com. Deadline Nov. 30, 2021.
Thank you in advance and enjoy a fun and memorable Hoop Classic!
